How we score venues
Every ranked list on this site is computed by a formula over public data: Google reviews, wedding marketplace listings, and Instagram. No editor picks the order and no venue can pay to move up. Badges are free. The same formula runs in every city, and we recompute the rankings quarterly.
The Mikla Score (100 points)
- Review quality40 points
Ratings weighted by review volume, so a venue with 12 perfect reviews does not outrank one with 900 near-perfect reviews. We weight independent review sources most heavily, because marketplace ratings partly reflect a venue’s investment in those platforms.
- Review volume and momentum20 points
How many couples review the venue, how recently, and how steadily over the last 12 months.
- Cross-platform consistency15 points
Venues rated well everywhere score higher than venues that shine on one platform and lag on another.
- Audience15 points
Instagram audience size, engagement, and activity. A small factor by design: followers can be bought, engagement is harder to fake.
- Industry recognition5 points
Independent awards such as Best of Weddings and Couples’ Choice.
- Responsiveness signals5 points
A claimed business profile, owner replies to reviews, and a working website.
Eligibility
A business qualifies if it actively hosts weddings, is currently open, is located inside the metro area and in the same state as the city the list covers, and has at least 15 reviews across the platforms we track. We exclude permanently closed businesses. Venues in a neighboring state, like South Jersey venues near Philadelphia, appear on their own state's lists instead.
What the score rewards
The formula favors venues with strong, recent, and consistent review activity. That means a well-known name can rank lower than expected when its recent review momentum lags, and a smaller venue with outstanding recent feedback can rank higher. That is by design: the score measures what couples are saying now, not brand recognition.
