Buyers now ask ChatGPT for “the best med spa in Austin”. See if AI assistants name your business, where you land in their list, who they name instead, and what to fix.
When an AI assistant sends a buyer your way, they reach out ready to ask about dates and prices. Mikla replies to every email inquiry in under a minute, 24/7, answers their questions and follows up until they book.
Your website, your business name, what you do and the city you serve. That’s all we need to ask the right question.
We ask ChatGPT and Perplexity, with web search on, the question a buyer would ask: “What are the best {your type} in {your city}?”
Find out if you were named, where you landed, who was named instead, which sites the answers relied on, and the next steps to improve.
AI visibility is whether AI assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude name your business when someone asks them for a recommendation. It is the AI version of showing up on the first page of Google.
The difference is the format. A search engine shows a page of links and lets the buyer compare. An assistant usually gives a short list of five to ten names with a sentence about each, and many buyers start their shortlist from that list. If you’re not on it, you’re not in the conversation.
Asking an assistant feels like asking a friend who has read every review. A couple can type “best wedding venues near Austin for 150 guests under $15k” and get specific names back, instead of sorting through ads, directories and listicles on their own.
Those buyers arrive with a shortlist already made. If an assistant names three of your competitors and not you, some buyers will never visit your website at all, even if your reviews are strong.
Nobody outside OpenAI, Perplexity or Google knows the exact rules, and answers change from one ask to the next. What we can see is how the answers are built. With web search on, an assistant runs a few searches, reads the pages that come back, and summarizes them.
Those pages are usually local “best of” articles, directories and marketplaces, review sites, Google Business listings and the businesses’ own websites. That’s why this checker shows you the sources each answer relied on. A business that appears on those pages, with consistent details and strong reviews, has more chances to be named.
We ask ChatGPT and Perplexity the same question, “What are the best {type of business} in {city}? Recommend specific businesses.”, with web search on so the answers reflect current local results. Then we read each answer, list every business it names in order, and look for your name and your website.
Your score is out of 100, and each assistant counts equally. Being named first earns 100 points, 2nd or 3rd earns 85, 4th or 5th earns 70, 6th to 10th earns 55, a mention further down earns 40, and not being named earns 0. We save answers for 7 days, so checking the same business again that week shows the same answers.
